Week 12 Streaming Options: Quarterback, Tight End, DST

Week 11 was a good week for streaming. Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernik came through finishing as QB 7 and 8 respectively. Miami and the Giants both finished as top 10 defenses (7th and 10th). Fiedorowicz turned 10 targets into 82 yards. Unfortunately Brate failed to haul in his only red zone target and left his owners hurting. As usual tight end is the toughest position to stream week to week. On to the week 12 picks.

Colin Kaepernik, SF
I think I’m just going to keep copying and pasting this paragraph until people start to take notice. Since taking over the starting job in week 6 he’s finished as QB13, QB16, QB9, QB6 and QB8. He’s yet to score less than 15 points in standard 4TD scoring leagues. His schedule the rest of the way is very soft with the only tough matchup being the Rams in week 16. If you are hurting for a QB you could do worse than starting Kaepernik every week. Still only owned in 18% of Yahoo leagues he makes a great play in week 12 against a Miami defense allowing 17 points to QB’s on the season.

Carson Wentz, PHI
Wentz has been very up and down this year which should be expected from a rookie. In week 13 he should be up as he gets a Green Bay defense that just made Kirk Cousins look like 2007 Tom Brady. Being at home this week will help too as his two best games of the season were at home. He was dropped in many leagues (rightfully so) and is only owned in 32% of Yahoo leagues. Adding to the appeal is Vegas has the Eagles as 4 point favorites and QB’s tend to score more points as favorites.

Tight Ends

Zach Ertz, PHI
Every time I look at tight ends I vomit in my mouth. What a mess of a position. Scoring a touchdown pretty much guarantees a top 10 weekly finish at the position. But hey, most of us are struggling at the position and quite a few just lost Zach Miller for the season. That brings us to Ertz coming off his best game of the year. The good: Green Bay is averaging 10 points to tight ends. As stated above Wentz should have a good game which should help Ertz. In the last 3 weeks he’s seen 7, 8 and 11 targets. The bad: The guy just does not score touchdowns. Sure he got one last week and had another one called back by penalty, but history is not on his side. Luckily the targets should give him a decent floor but don’t expect much more.

Will Tye, NYG
This is 100% a play against the matchup. The Giants are playing a Cleveland team that gives up 13 points to tight ends. Also since becoming the de facto starter for the Giants he’s seen 7, 8 and 5 targets. His floor is low but he has a good chance for a touchdown this week against the Browns.

Buffalo v Jacksonville
There are currently 6 teams you can stream against every week and feel really good about: Rams, Jets, Bears, Browns, Niners and the Jaguars. Buffalo started off looking like they could be a set and forget defense but a lull from weeks 6 to their bye saw them dropped in most leagues. They rebounded nicely last week against Cincinnati on the road and now get Blake Bortles at home. In case you didn’t know Bortles is a turnover machine who has thrown 10 pick sixes in his illustrious career. Being 7 point favorites at home, and coming off a 2 int game against Andy Dalton, the Bills should be in line for a big week.

Tennessee @ Chicago
Chicago is an absolute mess. Alshon Jeffrey has been suspended until week 15. Zach Miller just broke his foot and will miss the remainder of the season. Now word has come out that Jay Cutler injured his shoulder and may also miss the remainder of the season. If he does that will leave Matt Barkley to take over passing duties. In week 7 when he took over for Hoyer against Green Bay he went 6/15 for 81 yards and 2ints. His passer rating was 18.3. To put that into perspective had he just spiked the ball 15 times his rating would have been about twice that. I don’t typically like DSTs on the road but this matchup is just too juicy to pass up.

It’s a great week for streaming DSTs so here are some other good options: Miami v SF (if available), New Orleans v Rams, NY Giants @ Cleveland.

Streaming option I missed? Let me know in the comments below. Good luck streaming this week!

  1. Is it not a contradiction to have Miami’s Defense as a streaming option during the same week you have Kaepernik, who is the QB of the opposing team, as your top QB streaming option?
